Gary Husband - Multi-Instrumentalist and Composer

Alternity Record's signed Gary Husband for US distribution for his new A Meeting of Spirits (interpretations of the music of John McLaughlin) solo piano project in early 2006. Gary Husband has developed a distinguished career as one of Britain's most acclaimed and vital forces in modern jazz expression, with his all-star Force Majeure project, featuring luminaries like Matt Garrison (bass), Jerry Goodman (violin), Jim Beard (keys), Randy Brecker (trumpet). See the VIDEO PREVIEW of his new CD release! with live performance footage!

Gary originally hailed from Leeds, and came to prominence in the early 1980s as the phenomenal percussive force behind Allan Holdsworth's first touring band, IOU. Husband also recorded keyboards on several of Holdsworth's acclaimed solo projects, in addition to his core role as drummer. Later, Husband began a very succesful association as a member of the best selling pop and British R&B chart-topping band, Level 42.

It was only the first of many remarkable musical relationships where Husband played a key supporting role.

John McLaughlin said of Gary's new project, A Meeting of Spirits: "Gary Husband the pianist has long been overshadowed by Gary Husband the drummer. I can personally testify to it.... But Gary is no ordinary musician: full of invention and surprises, modulations and inversions of melodic, harmonic and rhythmiccontent abound. This is Gary Husband in full bloom: Wonderful!!!"

By the 90s, Husband had been increasingly exploring his instincts as a musical leader, and taking his performance career in a different direction, joined Billy Cobham's touring ensemble as a keyboardist, rising to the challenge of playing comfortably in a role previously manned by keyboard legend Jan Hammer. Another landmark for Husband was his recording, The Things I See -- a brilliant solo piano record in which Husband explored, interpreted and built upon the compositions of guitar master Allan Holdsworth. Husband has recently toured in 2006 with another critically acclaimed electric guitarist, Mike Stern -- and his immense talents can be heard on the new release by John McLaughlin - Industrial Zen -- which has just been released in the US this summer. Husband performs both on keyboards and drums on what is fast being recofnized as one of McLaughlin's recent seminal works.

Gary Husband first appeared on the Alternity Records label on Jason Smith's Think Like This released late in 2005 -- featuring another celebrated Holdsworth alumnus, Dave Carpenter on bass. This release features Husband primarily on acoustic piano, with ample solos and vamping on Moog synth and Rhodes -- and includes Husband's epic jazz suite, "Three Lies," along with his stunning arrangement of "The Way You Look Tonight" (Fields / Kerrn).
