May 2005 - Alternity Records' release of the double-CD Against The Clock - The Best of Allan Holdsworth has received high critical praise from both radio DJs and musician and jazz oriented magazines - (check out the reviews!) -- a collection selected from past Holdsworth classic albums, including favorites such as Wardenclyffe Tower, Atavachron, Hard Hat Area, 16 Men of Tain, along with some Holdsworth rarities.

Try out our summer 2005 selection of new releases -- Jane Getter's blistering and soulful See Jane Run, Simeon Harris' 'The Assessment' -- and a new audiophile jazz trio record featuring an unbelievable performance by Gary Husband playing piano, including covering standards by Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, and Kenny Wheeler... Think Like This! is an exceptional surprise by a younger generation of musical masters -- and it's the recording debut from the Jason Smith project, also featuring another Holdsworth band alumni, bassist Dave Carpenter... If you haven't yet experienced our landmark latest release:

April 27, 2005 -- The lastest news prior to the next press release: Alternity has signed drummer/composer Jason Smith and his trio, with Gary Husband playing acoustic grand piano and keyboards, and the incomporable bass stylings of Dave Carpenter, all of whom who have been integral parts of many memorable collaborations, including their work with Allan Holdsworth, Five for Fighting, Scott Henderson, and Mose Allison among many others--now they have spawned the next generation of serious piano trio jazz with homages that tie long melodic bonds between the jazz sensibilities of LA and London--listen with new ears to their covers of classics by Keith Jarrett, Kenny Wheeler, and Herbie Hancock -- and then venture into the evocative compositions of Jason Smith.

March, 2005 -- Allan Holdsworth's live masterpiece, Then! is now available via DOWNLOAD...

February, 2005 -- Against The Clock... includes two previously unreleased studio tracks, one of which is Holdsworth's dramatic synthaxe and solo guitar orchestration of the American folk classic, Shenandoah. Against The Clock features exceptional art design by impressario Mark Gleed, who assembled a 12 page booklet for this special retrospective, and includes tribute quotes from John McLaughlin, Joe Satriani, Bill Bruford, Gary Husband, Pat Metheny, and Eddie Van Halen, plus a gallery of rare Holdsworth photos.

January 2005 - Alternity Showcase: The Jane Getter Band opened the January 13 Allan Holdsworth concert at BB King's in New York City, impressing a demanding crowd! In her band among other notables, none other than fusion impressario Adam Holzman on keyboards, who worked with the late Miles Davis.

The Alternative Alternative...

There are lots of new and planned Allan Holdsworth tour dates -- chances are he's coming to a city near you... even if you live in Russia (well maybe not if you're from Vladivostok).

Modern Drummer recently reviewed Then! -- so far all the reviews have been unanimous in praising our effort with this amazing live performance from 1990 - "Taken primarily from a 1990 Tokyo concert, "Then!" is a great addition to the Allan Holdsworth catalogue, and stands as yet another exceptional British jazz-rock record. With keyboardist Steve Hunt and bassist Jimmy Johnson, the band blazes through nine tracks including three improvisational "Zones" and Tony Williams' classic "Proto Cosmos." Drummer Gary Husband is stunning throughout, playing with incredible fire, finesse, and a heat-seeking technical perfection that is thrilling. Husband's stamina and speed seem endless, and his creativity is inspirational. A revelation that was almost lost for good, "Then!" is a mind-blower."-- Ken Micallef

Universal Music Japan has released Against The Clock for distribution in Japan/Asia and Riptyde has been released in Japan with a bonus track, "Shinjuku Schemes."

Other Alternity News: Alternity Records is working toward the release of the legendary "Soma II" project with keyboardist/producer/composer Mark Gleed, drummer Guy Eckstine, Allan Holdsworth, guitar, and Tony Levin on bass.
